Today, I present to you Swiss Chard from our garden. Isn't she lovely?
Now that we've enjoyed its beauty, what do I DO with it? I know I can steam it or sauté it with a little oil and salt, but... I don't. Mainly, it goes into our super-fabulous, anti-oxidant rich morning juice blends (check out this surprisingly yummy combination). These juices are great, but we lose the fibre. There must be something else I can do with this pretty veggie that doesn't involve masticating it.
Anyone have any yummy swiss chard recipes they'd like to share?
I'm so jealous of seeing everyone's garden pictures! My black thumb of death kills everything in sight. Yours looks great however!
ReplyDeleteAsian stews and soups always consist of green leafy veggies like this...you should look those kinds of recipes up!
ReplyDeleteI'm know help here...sorry! But good luck to figuring it out :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not any help either. If I find any recipes in the near future, I'll keep you in mind!
ReplyDeleteI always juice my chard but if you find something good to do with it will you please share.
ReplyDeleteI love, love LOVE chard!! Smitten Kitchen has a yummy chard gratin with sweet potatoes. Alice Waters has some yummy chard recipes, also. I KNOW i used to make a fantastic Martha Stewart recipe with squash and chard- like a casserole, but I can't find it. I'll keep looking bc it was AMAZING. I also make many chard frittatas with parm or goat cheese. I've thrown it into my lasagna and made a FANTASTIC polenta layered recipe with chard also: that was also an Alice Waters recipe, from the Art of Simple Cooking.
ReplyDelete(I'm a vegetarian, so I'm all about some leafy green superfoods.) ;)
I'm a salad girl, I make salads out of everything, almost everything ;-).
ReplyDeleteAnd for chard I found this recipe: http://www.pinkbites.com/2009/05/kale-and-chard-salad-with-blue-cheese.html
Barbara, Natalie, Jennifer, and Jessica, I'm glad I'm not alone in being confused by this vegetable! I love it in juices but what else to do....? I'll keep you posted if I find something else yummy!
ReplyDeleteRachel, thanks for the tip! Should have known you've have some ideas for me, my foodie friend!
ReplyDeleteTracy, thanks for the suggestions! Wow! If I had the creativity (or a list of failproof delicious recipes), I would probably be a vegetarian too.
ReplyDelete"Mommy" that kale and chard salad looks really good! I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful vegetable. Love the colour of the stems! I don't think I've eaten Swiss Chard, unless they call it differently over here. I guess you could blend it instead of juicing it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful vegetable...sadly, I've never heard of it, yikes! Hope you can figure out what to do with it :)
ReplyDeleteHave you looked on Allrecipes.com? They've got tons of recipes.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo the Swiss Chard looks so bright and yummy. I wish I could help with a recipe but I have never cooked Swiss Chard. New follower from the Wordless Wednesday Hop. Hop you stop by for a visit and follow back if you like.
ReplyDeleteShe is very pretty. Is she neutral, being swiss and all? That would make her fit in a little bit of everything...
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteI could definitely blend it, Kiddothings - I've blended spinach before into smoothies.
I'll check out Allrecipes.com, Rach - have looked there before but not for some time.
Stasha - lol. You are so witty! :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen swiss chard being used on the food network on Rachael Ray and Martha I think? Oh!I think it was Jamie Oliver! Try that & good luck!
ReplyDeleteSaying hi from the WW VB blog hop
This is how my husband makes chard. I love it and my kids will eat it. Stir-fry in a little olive oil, add a splash of lemon juice and soy sauce, and a good handful of raisins. He covers for a little while to let the raisins get all plump and moist. That's it! My kids all approached it in a different way. One went only for the raisins, another the stems, and another the leafy part. But after a few times, they all eat everything just fine.
ReplyDeleteYou make yummy morning blends... wow come live with me!
