Yes, it's the most rewarding, wonderful, life-altering experiencing a woman can have and I wouldn't trade it for anything. BUT, it's also the most sanity-sucking, sleep-depriving, confidence-shaking experience I have ever had, or will ever have.
From the moment that my body started to change...
After delivering my bundle of joy, in all my natural glory, in front of total strangers...
In the beginning when I thought the hard part was over, only to realize it had just begun...
Through the acid reflux (aka colic on steroids)...
Through the sleep battles, the zombie-like drives to the docs office (really should not have been behind the wheel - can we not arrange some sort of priority transport system for new mothers?)...
Through the fantasies of driving away from it all until I ran out of gas...
Through potty training...
Through dinner-time battles...
Through night-time battles...
Through "no" and later more colourful forms of backtalk...
And still... it's only just begun.
Through all of this and the more to come, I have and I will survive. It's hard to imagine there's anything I can't handle.

I love it! I had acid reflux when I was pregnant with my SON. Can you say, "BARF" and "Ouch"?
ReplyDeleteKenya, it's awful, isn't it? He was in so much pain. I bounced him all day - the only thing that would stop the crying!
DeleteI love this!! This quote is priceless!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I have a magnet with the quote on my fridge! :)
DeleteIsn't that the truth? These kids prepare us for battle! :)
ReplyDeleteNatalie, it feels like a battle some days, doesn't it?
DeleteYou're wonderful Sue...keep going!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth! :)
DeleteLOL -- thanks, I needed that.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! :)
DeleteMoms are such strong incredible people.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! To think I almost didn't get to be a mom. Sure, life would have been easier, but since when was life about taking it easy?
DeleteSo true!!
ReplyDeleteAnd its only just begun.
Gah!!
Gah, is right! Good thing they're cute!!
DeleteLove it, so true! We've already been through so much, and there are still so many adventures to come, yikes! Thanks for linking up :)
ReplyDeleteHard to believe sometimes that there are more challenges ahead - feels like I've had my share - but at least I have the training to handle it now. :)
DeleteI hear you and identify. The quote is so true it's funny. Motherhood is THE most difficult job I have ever had ... and you can't quit when the going gets tough. Like you said, it's life changing and you never go back to your old self.
ReplyDeleteYou said it, Bruna. "You can't quit when the going gets tough." I've quit jobs and taken sick days, but there are no sick days for mothers. But the perks are better too!
DeleteHa nice one! It really does alter you irrevocably. I didn't even do the pushing and I feel like our pre-adoption journey nearly broke me let alone just being a regular ole parent!
ReplyDeleteHarriet, I thought labour and delivery were going to be the toughest parts. I had full confidence in my ability to be a mom. There were a few surprises...
DeleteI have friends who have adopted and I know that the process can be quite challenging! We've all done our time.
